It all started in 1952 during the first phosphate researchers in Togo in the frame of a survey of the west coast of Africa by the geographical service of the North African phosphate counter (CPAN), where layers of phosphate have been discovered. Thus was created the mining company of Benin (SMB) which, in collaboration with the technical service of the CPAN proceeds to the development of an exploitation project, of enrichment method and the construction of a pilot plant. Events followed one another until the creation of the OTP in 1974, the creation of the SNPT in 2007 and its effective start in 2008.
